The Benefits for Window and Facade Manufacturers

Advantages for window and façade manufacturers, fitters, joiners, carpenters, as well as architects and internal designers. Good reasons to convince – and decide.

Convincing facts
  • It is now possible to design windows, wooden buildings, glass facades, conservatories, sliding and folding doors and entrance halls, using high quality compliant profiles which are compatible with the entire building envelope
  • A complete system solution with the most simple manufacturing process
  • The intelligent window technology using high density insulation profiles which not only fulfill the current regulations but also the imminent new EnEV standards
  • No production risks
  • No tooling costs
  • No spray booths or lines
  • Working from bar lengths, or precut profiles. Using the latest technology without conspicuous production line set-up
  • Straightforward manufacturing sequence
  • Quick assembly and high production capacity
  • Reduced work-force without specialist requirement
  • Clear fixed costs without calculation risks
  • High flexibility for customers individual requirements
  • Explicit and conclusive price advantage when compared to conventional production methods and other window systems
  • Credible system security
  • A wide spectrum of choice of more systems and design variation up to passive value
  • First class energy assessment together with extraordinary aesthetics from wood and elegant optics. Veneered solid wood sections or Aluminium wrapped, high value insulation profiles V-Isolux
  • Clever details for climate protection with potentially high energy savings
  • V-Isolux insulation profile as well as aluminium cladding in many Eloxal and RAL colours
  • There are numerous good reasons and therefore increased commercial potential

Evaluation: Energy-Efficiency at the Window

Windows are basically the most important energy saving building elements. Control of light, sun protection, ventilation and heat transmission are all factors which contribute to the energy efficiency of a building. The adjacent diagram »Total Energy Transmission Value« (g-value EN410) shows how the glazing affects the transmission of the total amount of energy from direct sun light and secondary external warmth, to the internal. The Uw-value is the heat loss of a window. This is the calculation of the U-value of the glazing (Ug-value to EN673), the U-value of the window frame (U-value to EN10077) , and both cold break coefficients rv (loss at the glazing tape) and eb (loss at the glazing spacing).

As well as the comfort criteria the first consideration, for choice of glazing, was the energy criteria. The triple glazed heat retaining glass was selected as ideal. That means, with a Ug-value (EN673) less than 0.7W/m2K and a g-value of more than 50 % (EN410), the glazing on the south-facing side of the building (even during deep-winter in central Europe) will allow more energy into the room, through the glass, than that which escapes from heat loss. The glazing heats the passive house even at –15° (by passive use of the suns energy).

Passive house windows
have in themselves a built in Uw-value of less than 0.85W/m2K. Such windows can be considered as heating radiators for the room and thereby often cover half the heat loss of a passive house. From these view-points it is amazing the some people still choose other window designs in front of passive house windows.

The Thermal Benefit-Coefficient S is variable according to region, as well as dependant on orientation of the sun. Certified glazing specifies the known values Ug and g. For example as found in the Certificate of the Passive House Institute (www.passiv.de)

Equivalent Uw-value:
Ueg = Uw – g x SF ≤ 0,3 W/m2K.
SF = Thermal benefit factor dependant on the orientation of the window with
Ueg = Equivalent U-value in W/m2K
Uw = U-value of the window in W/m2K
Fr = Surface area of the window in m2
g = Total energy transmittance
SF = Solar benefit factor determined by orientation with 1,6 W/m2K, South = 2,4, West/East = 1,65, North = 0,95 W/m2K
In addition
  • Intelligent window technology suitable for all current market wood/alu window systems. Potential application using conventional wood profiles. eg. Systems of other manufacturers without changes to thickness, and complying to current guidelines of EnEV
  • Externally it is available in white, grey, bronze, brass, copper and stainless steel – internally all species of wood
  • No cold breaks, no consideration
  • Quicker assembly
  • Available as prepared sections ready for assembling
  • No investment in machines and tooling
  • Outstanding insulation value up to passive house standard
